Great job on Finals, everyone! I was really impressed with the amount of preparation for this playing test and with your growth this year. If I had given you this music at the beginning of the year, most of you would have panicked and had no idea how to approach it. Instead, most of you panicked and play well anyway!

Schubert Symphony No. 8

This is the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Ricardo Muti. Yes, I know it says Symphony 7 on the title card. It's pretty common for the numbering of symphonies to be mixed up - Dvorak's Symphonies are the same way. Yes, I know it says "Wiener Philharmoniker", hee hee. That's the possessive German for Vienna.

I thought it might be useful for you to see and hear a professional performance - and please understand that this is one of, if not the, most renowned orchestras in the world. Our version is obviously much shorter but contains all the main themes (melodies) of the first movement.
